Maths For Fun (Senior Infants)

Parent Involvement in the classroom. Numeracy games are seen as fun and parents see that they can involve numeracy skills in play at home 28 pupils, 5 parents May Parents visited for three weeks to play games that encourage numeracy. Response of the parents was very positive

Grandparents Day

To strengthen home-school relations All January/February Pupils learned about life in their grandparents' time. Feedback was very positive from grandparents
Home Visits, Meetings with Parents To improve home-school relationships. To provide assistance with problems. To encourage good attendance and participation in school. 10 As required Each contact with parents at home is unique. In general we have had very positive relations with parents. It gives parents who do not like to come to school a voice.
Senior Infants Club To support the pupils who are behind the class level. To encourage the parents of EAL pupils to speak English at home HSCL (3 parents) November & December Pupils from Traveller & EAL families received support each week with homework. They were engaged in conversation to promote the communication skills.
Attendance meetings with EWB & SCP Coordinator Following meetings with parents of targeted pupils to put a plan of intervention in place to help with attendance HSCL As required The parents who attended were prepared to play a more active role in their child's attendance and attendance improved.
Head Start (Home visits for enrolling Junior Infants) To facilitate a smooth transition from home to primary school 25 May/June Very positive feedback from parents with the Head Start pack. Home visits were well received and parents new to the school were able to ask questions about the school.
Reception Day New Infants To ensure a happy transition to primary school and confidence in starting school 25 June New infants became familiar with the school and met their teachers. They got time to play together and their parents got to meet each other.
