Pupils' learning experiences and their attitude to school and to learning are used to predict rates of retention in education. Any pupil who is happy in school and feels he/she is progressing well and is a valued member of the school has a greater chance of completing education to Third Level. For this reason we monitor our pupils' attitude to school.
Numeracy

A survey of attitudes to Maths shows the following:
Sixth Class: 100% of pupils like Maths
Fifth Class: 76% of pupils like Maths
Fourth Class: 80% of pupils like Maths
Third Class: 78% of pupils like Maths
Second Class: 86% of pupils like Maths

Literacy

A survey of attitudes to reading shows the following:
Sixth Class: 100% of pupils like reading
Fifth Class: 94% of pupils like reading
Fourth Class: 87% of pupils like reading
Third Class: 89% of pupils like reading

Variety of Projects During School Hours: percussion workshops, gymnastics, sports, singing workshops, activities in conjunction with Active School Week, science workshops etc
Variety of After School Clubs: Chess Club, Gaeilge Club, Scratch Computer Club, Debating Club, Club Francais, Draughts Club for Senior Infants, LEGO Robotics Club, Maths Circle for Sixth Class etc
Sports Activities during school break times in the senior classes: Volleyball League, Soccer League etc
Play Therapy
Activities to raise the self-esteem of pupils such as Pupil of the Week and recognition of success in activities outside of school. Teachers treat mistakes as opportunities to learn. Failure is seen as a normal and often essential part of learning. Emphasis is placed on effort and work ethic and not only on achievement.

Care Team to monitor the holistic needs of each pupil

We try to create a welcoming atmosphere for all pupils e.g. pupils are met on arrival to school by a teacher each morning
The school places a strong emphasis on the social, personal and health education programme its implementation permeates  interactions and communications throughout the school.
The school strictly adheres to the guidelines for Anti-Bullying Procedures for Primary & Post Primary Schools and promotes bullying awareness.
'Lead by Example' - teachers and staff will promote a positive and friendly environment and the HSCL will work with parents to promote a positive attitude towards school in the home
Teach Positive Actions - teachers will cover the following concepts through the informal class curriculum:
The importance of doing positive actions to feel good about yourself.
Positive actions for a healthy body (such as nutrition, exercise, and sleep).
Positive actions for the intellect (such as thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills).
Positive actions for self-management (such as managing time, energy, emotions, and other personal resources).
Positive actions for getting along with others (such as treating others fairly, kindly, and respectfully).
Positive actions for being honest with yourself and others (such as taking responsibility, admitting mistakes, and not blaming others).
Positive actions for improving yourself continually (such as setting and achieving goals).
