You are here Three Year Plan 2013 - 2016 Literacy Year 1 (2013-2014)

Review & Targets:

Significant numbers of our pupils are now in the top two bands for literacy as shown on the standardised test results. The progress of these pupils in the last three years has been outstanding and has brought up the overall literacy levels. The school wishes to thank all involved in this work - it is only possible with the considerable support of pupils, teachers, parents, BOM, School Completion Programme and the wider community.

We are 3% above the national norm for pupils above the 98th Percentile. This is a wonderful improvement from having no pupils in the category five years ago when our DEIS planning began. (5% compared with national norm of 2%)
Minimum Target: To maintain our scores at 3% above the national norm and to work towards raising this by another 1% each year for the duration of the Three Year Plan.

We are 6% above the national norm for pupils in the 85th - 98th percentile. This is a significant rise of 7% since the start of DEIS planning. (20% compared with national norm of 14%)
Minimum Target: To maintain our scores at 6% above the national norm and to work towards raising this by another 1% each year for the duration of the Three Year Plan.

We are 11% below the national norm for pupils in the 51st - 84th percentile. This is a drop of 7% since the start of our DEIS planning, (23% compared to 34%) but this drop is accounted for as these pupils improved sufficiently to move up to the higher levels.
Target: To move 2% of pupils to the next band in year 2013/2014, 2% in 2014/2015 and 1% in 2015/2016

We are 5% below the national norm for pupils in the 17th - 50th percentile. This is a 3% improvement since the start of our DEIS planning. (29% compared to 34%)
Target: To move 2% of these pupils to the next band (51st - 84th percentile) in year 2013/2014, 2% in year 2014/2015 and 1% in 2015/2016 to be in line with national norms.

We are 6% above the national norm for pupils in the 3rd - 16th percentile. This is an improvement of 6% since the start of our DEIS planning. (20% compared with 14%)
Target: To move 2% of these pupils to the next band (17th - 50th percentile) in year 2013/2014, 2% in year 2014/2015 and 2% in 2015/2016 to be in line with national norms.

We are 1% above the national norm for pupils at or below the 2nd percentile. This is a 1% improvement since the start of our DEIS planning. (3% compared to 2%).
Target: To move 0.5% of these pupils to the next band (3rd - 16th percentile) in year 2013/2014, 0.5% in year 2014/2015 and maintain the 1% gain in 2015/2016 to be in line with national norms.

In the case where a pupil has been targeted for substantial improvement, the parents will be notified and made aware that the pupil is capable of improvement. Close regular contact will be maintained by the literacy teacher with the parents so that progress can be monitored. The principal will also liasise closely with the literacy teacher, HSCL, the parents and the pupil to ensure that targets are met.
