Success in Girls' Finals in Limerick

Congratulations to the Girls' Chess Team on winning Bronze in the Girls National Chess Competition for Primary Schools in The South Court Hotel in Limerick. Well done girls.

The school's Chess Club takes place every Friday immediately after school from 2.30pm - 3.30pm from 29th September to the end of April. All our members are coached by Darko Polimac, Ireland's Junior Head Chess Coach at different times during the year. There is no cost involved. Last year we had 75 players and the club will be open for membership when the school reopens on 30th August.

The first Internet European School's Chess Championship will take place during November 2017. If members of our chess club are interested our school will enter the competition and we encourage any pupils interested in taking part to play chess online during the summer holidays. There are many websites which allow pupils to play in competitions online and one of the best is www.chesskid.com It is free to join the site and no personal information is required. There is no need to upgrade the free account to a paid account. Pupils can play against the computer or against other players around the world.

Bunclody Library will host a ten week chess programme with chess coach Manuel Gardenes for children aged 8+ beginning on Tuesday 13 th July at 3.30pm. Pupils who attended last year enjoyed it very much and were very impressed with the mind training coaching from Manuel. (Booking is essential as places are limited).
