Claude & Syd learn about Hurling
Today Syd met up with another platypus called Claude. Claude also comes from an Australian
school in Brisbane. We taught Syd and Claude the rules of Hurling, which is played with a
wooden shaped stick called a hurley. It is shaped like a hockey stick. We play with a
leather ball called a slioter which is a bit smaller than a baseball. We play with goals
the same size as soccer goals. There are two long poles sticking out of the crossbar. The
rules of hurling are very easy to learn. We will explain some of the rules. The most
important thing to do in the game is score goals and points. To score a point you have to
hit the ball between the goalposts. A goal is worth three points which is very important
in a game of Hurling. One of the most important rules is if you push anyone they get a
free. Another important rule in the game is if you catch the ball three times without
passing it to somebody the oppostion will get a free. There are fifteen players on the
team, and twenty-five on a panel. The team is made up of three different positions -
Backs, Midfielders, and Forwards. At the last five minutes of the match Syd scored a
brilliant goal and Claude scored a wonderful point. after the match Syd and Claude were
very tired so they went and had a rest. (James and Sarah)
