You are here 3.1 BULLYING BY PERSONS OTHER THAN EMPLOYEES Bullying at work by persons other than employees such as parents, visitors and business contacts is not tolerated and may lead to termination of contracts or suspension of services, or to exclusion from a premises or the imposition of other sanctions, as deemed appropriate by the Board of Management. 3.2 PROCEDURES FOR DEALING WITH REPORTED INCIDENTS Allegations of bullying by persons other than employees should be made by the staff to the principal who will bring the matter to the attention of the Board. The principal will then establish the facts, the context and then the next course of action in dealing with the matter under the informal procedure. If the complaint concerns bullying as defined and includes concrete examples of inappropriate behaviour, the person complained against will be presented with the complaint and his/her response established. After that, a method will be agreed to progress the issue to resolution so that both parties can return to a harmonious working environment without bullying being a factor. If the behaviour complained of does not concern bullying as defined, an alternative approach will be put in place and a rationale recorded. If there are no concrete examples given, it must be deemed that there is no complaint to be answered by the person complained of as they have no recourse to repudiating an accusation that does not involve any specifics. If the issue cannot be resolved through the informal process then the principal will inform the Board of Management and the formal process will be initiated. The procedure for the formal process for allegations of bullying dealing with persons other than employees will follow the formal process as detailed for dealing with allegations of bullying by employees. |
