You are here Our Science & Maths Work Engineer's Week

As part of Engineer's Week civil engineer Krzysztof Swiac from Drumderry Precast visited the school to talk to the pupils in 3rd - 6th class yesterday. He told them about the work of an engineer and brought with him a cube of concrete, some aggregate for a concrete mix and some steel bars for strengthening concrete beams.  He spoke about how engineers were involved in designing and making roller coast rides and bridges. Some of our pupils have been busy making their own bridges and pyramids so they were very interested in hearing how a professional would do the job. Krzysztof stressed the importance of Maths in the work of an engineer and encouraged pupils to enjoy Maths. We thank Krzysztof very much for visiting the school. It is refreshing to note that some of our girls would now consider engineering as a suitable profession for them.
